CAIRO, Jan. 15 (YPA) – China and Egypt discussed on Monday the armed tension escalating in the Red Sea against the backdrop of the strikes launched by Britain and America on Yemen.
In a joint statement held in Cairo, the two parties affirmed they watched closely developments in the situation in the Red Sea, stressing the priority of ensuring the safety and security of navigation.
Last week, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed in a statement its deep concern over the escalation of military operations in the Red Sea region and the air strikes that targeted a number of areas inside Yemen, calling for the necessity of uniting international and regional efforts in order to reduce tension and instability in the region, including the security of navigation in the Red Sea.
The statement considered the dangerous and accelerating developments taking place in the southern Red Sea region and Yemen as a clear indication of what it had previously warned repeatedly about the dangers of expanding the conflict in the region as a result of the continued Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, China’s Chinese Foreign Ministry announced, last Friday, its full readiness to intervene to calm tensions in the Red Sea.
“We are ready to communicate with all parties and calm tensions in order to jointly maintain the security of the international waterway,” the ministry added.
