SHABWA, Jan. 02 (YPA) – A tribal rally was organized on Tuesday in Jardan district Shabwa province to protest a decision taken by the coalition-backed local authority in the province.
The protesters gathered in front of OMV Austrian Company, which operates Al-Uqla oil sector, calling on the authority to remove the decision that aims to exclude a number of the company’s guard members from Shabwa and replace them with others from outside the province.
Local sources said the company took the decision a few days ago to lay off a number of Shabwa residents working as part of the company’s guards, which sparked the anger of the tribes who rejected the decision.
The protesters demanded that the company should retract its unfair decision against the people of Shabwa, as it affects the source of income of dozens of families, in addition to being unjustified.
On Monday, gunmen affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council blew up an oil pipeline belonging to the Jannah Hunt Oil Company in Osaylan district, in protest against not receiving the salaries to protect the oil pipeline extending from Osaylan to the Ayyad area in the same province.
