China appoints commander Dong Jun as new defense minister

WORLD, Dec. 29 (YPA) – China on Friday appointed Commander-in-Chief of China’s Navy Dong Jun as defense minister, Xinhua reported.

Admiral Dong Jun has served as commander-in-chief of the People’s Liberation Army Navy since 2021.

The decision was taken during the seventh session of the Standing Committee of the 14th Chinese Parliament, held in Beijing on December 25-29.

The decision came more than two months after former Defence Minister Lee Shangfu was relieved of his post.

The last time Li appeared in public was on August 29 to address the 3rd China-Africa Peace and Security Forum in Beijing.
