British lawyers call for sanctions to be imposed on Netanyahu, his war council

LONDON, Nov. 30 (YPA) – British lawyers sent a letter to British Foreign Secretary David Cameron calling on him to impose sanctions on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and other members of the Israeli war cabinet for their involvement in war crimes in Gaza.

The lawyers said in the letter that the sanctions should be imposed under the Magnitsky Act. It is a law ratified by former US President Barack Obama in December 2012 that stipulates freezing the assets of people involved in corruption cases or serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.

The letter stated that since October 7, 2023, the barbaric war launched by “Israel” on Gaza has caused the death of an estimated 15,000 Palestinian civilians, including about 10,000 women and children, in addition to a huge number of wounded and severe damage to infrastructure.

The lawyers added that the Netanyahu government not only committed all these crimes but also imposed a siege on the Gaza Strip and prevented the arrival of vital supplies such as food, medicine, and fuel to the Palestinian people and hospitals in Gaza.

The lawyers’ letter pointed out that the Foreign Ministry’s use of the Magnitsky Act is an opportunity for the British government to implement its promises to respect human rights, apply international law, and hold accountable any official who commits flagrant human rights violations.
