WORLD, Oct. 26 (YPA) – The UN Security Council failed on Wednesday evening to adopt a US draft resolution that does not call for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Russia and China vetoed the US draft resolution at the Security Council on Wednesday evening.
On the other hand, the Security Council failed to adopt a Russian draft resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitating aid entry into the Strip, as the United States vetoed the Russian draft resolution.
The UN Security Council voted on two draft resolutions on the war on Gaza, one sponsored by the United States and the other by Russia, after the council failed last week to adopt similar draft resolutions, one sponsored by Russia and the other by Brazil.
Any draft would need nine votes out of 15 to be adopted in the Security Council, provided no permanent members wield a veto.
The United States has submitted to the UN Security Council a draft resolution on the escalation between Israel and Palestine condemning Hamas, recognizing Israel’s right to self-defense, and not calling for a ceasefire.
