Pakistan: Dozens killed and wounded in two suicide bombings in two mosques

WORLD, Sept. 29 (YPA) -At least 54 people were killed and dozens more wounded in two separate explosions in Pakistan’s Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces on Friday, targeting celebrations marking the birthday of Prophet Muhammed.

According to Police, a suicide bomber blew himself up in a crowd of people celebrating the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday in the Mastung district of the restive Balochistan province.

“The bomber detonated himself near a police vehicle near Madina Mosque, where people were gathering for a procession,” the senior police official Munir Ahmed told Reuters.

The first blast, in Mastung in the southwestern province of Balochistan, killed at least 52 people, according to district health official Abdul Rasheed, and injured another 58, many of them seriously.

The second attack, which took place during Friday prayers at a mosque near Peshawar City in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, killed five people at a mosque, according to rescue officials.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the blasts.
