WORLD, Sept. 28 (YPA) – US President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that he does not know what to do to prevent a possible US government shutdown, which could happen on the first of next October.
He was Asked if something could be done to prevent the shutdown, Biden said: “If I knew what I had to do to prevent the shutdown, I would have done it a while ago.”
The “shutdown” in the United States could result from Congress’ inability to pass the budget — full or short-term — by the end of fiscal year 2023.
Government funding ends at the start of the federal fiscal year on Oct. 1, and the shutdown will effectively begin at 12:01 a.m. if Congress cannot pass a funding plan signed by the president.
It’s impossible to predict how long the shutdown will last, with Congress split between the Democratic-controlled Senate and the Republican-led House of Representatives.
