WORLD, Sept. 26 (YPA) – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani affirmed that “no longer a need for the presence of the international coalition, which was formed to confront ISIS, which no longer represents a threat to the state”.
“When the security situation in Iraq was confused with the control of ISIS, the entire region was affected, and millions tended to emigrate, so the stability of Iraq must be preserved,” Al-Sudani said during his interview with The National newspaper, pointing out that “political differences in Iraq came within their natural context, and resorting to the Federal Court is a healthy sign of the political regime.”
He stressed that “ISIS does not represent today a threat to the Iraqi state, and there is no longer a need for the presence of the international coalition, which was formed to confront ISIS.”
Al-Sudani added, “During this month, the joint committee will meet with the American side. We emphasize the bilateral relationship with the United States for security cooperation, and we are open in all fields.”
It is noteworthy that US President Joe Biden and former Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi signed an agreement that officially ends the combat missions of US forces in Iraq by the end of 2021, more than 18 years after US troops were sent to the country.
Biden stressed that the US role in Iraq will focus on training assistance, in addition to combating the terrorist organization ISIS, and intelligence support.
