Yemeni statue is for sale in London

SANAA, Sept. 25 (YPA) – The Yemeni antiquities researcher, Abdullah Mohsen, revealed on Monday the sale of the magnificent statue of “Fatinat Qataban”, less than ten months after the David Aaron Gallery in London acquired this statue.

The researcher said: “The statue of a female Qatban head is an antiquity of Yemen, and it will be offered for sale for 75,000 pounds.”

He mentioned that Sotheby’s auction house had offered it for sale on December 7, 2022 in the auction of ancient sculpture and works of art, Part Two, and more than one dealer of antiquities and antiques competed for it.

The statue was described as a female head without a body, “delicately carved from evenly cream-colored alabaster.”

It is stated in the statue’s record that it was sold for the first time at the Sotheby’s London auction on April 29, 1963, under the number (86). It was acquired by the Gimbel Fels Gallery, founded by Charles and Peter Gimbel, sons of the famous Parisian art dealer René Gimbel, and then sold at Gimbel’s Auction, London (December 1970 – January 1971) under number (10).
