ADEN, Sept. 09 (YPA) – A general strike was declared on Saturday by Association of Teachers and Educators in Aden city, south of Yemen, for the second week in a row, to protest against the dismissal of a number of teachers.
Educational sources reported that the coalition-run Education Department had failed to prepare and organize for the city’s academic year, in addition to the strike and dismissal of 64 contract teachers in some schools.
The sources confirmed that educational process almost completely stopped in Sheikh Othman area and some areas, in protest against the illegal measures taken by the governor of Aden loyal to the UAE-funded “Southern Transitional Council (STC) against the contractors in several schools.
The sources indicated that dozens of teachers were working to cover the deficit in Aden schools with monthly dues not exceeding 30 thousand riyals, when they were dismissed.
Last week, Teachers Association called for a strike in all schools in Aden until their legitimate demands be met.
