Fire breaks out in IDP camp in Marib

MARIB, Aug 28 (YPA) -A massive fire broke out in one of the internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in the city of Marib, northeastern Yemen.

Media sources said that a fire broke out in the camps of Al-FAO and Al-Jufina, destroying 70 shelters and damaging a number of homes for the displaced.

According to the sources, the first fire broke out in Block No. 16 of Al-FAO camp and destroyed 70 houses, all built of tents and wood sticks, due to the delay in the arrival of the civil defense team and the lack of security and safety means in the camps.

The sources pointed out that the winds contributed to the spread of fires to nearby Al-Jufina camp, which was controlled by the people before it broke out throughout the camp.
Activists shared video footage on social media showing the fire that broke out in the Al-FAO camps.

It is worth noting that currently, the IDP camps have witnessed 62 fire incidents due to negligence and lack of security and safety means, which led to the death and injury of dozens of IDPs, according to a previous statement issued by the IDP executive in the governorate.

Many observers believe that the fires in the camps for the displaced in Marib were deliberately done by someone for the purpose of blackmailing international organizations, especially since these camps belong to the families of recruits in the ranks of the Saudi-led coalition, especially recruits of the Islah factions.
