SANAA, Aug. 24 (YPA) – The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has reported that more than 40 Yemenis were killed by lightning strikes last July.
The organization said in a statement on the agricultural climate on Wednesday, “Thunderbolts claimed the lives of 45 people and killed hundreds of livestock in various parts of Yemen during the month of July 2023.”
According to the organization’s statement, the rainfall last July was characterized by active thunderstorms, pointing out that lightning still poses a serious threat to the lives of cattle herders in various regions of the country.
It expected that the rains would continue during the fall season, especially in the highlands, while the rest of the regions would witness drought or little precipitation, in addition to the breeding of desert locusts.
