HODEIDA, Aug 19 (YPA) – Seven fishermen arrived at the fishing port in Hodeida governorate today, months after they were kidnapped and tortured by the Eritrean authorities.
During their reception, The Minister of Fisheries Mohammed Al-Zubairi said, that the Eritrean authorities released 100 fishermen. 93 of whom arrived yesterday in Al-Khokha district, while seven other fishermen arrived today at the fishing port in Hodeida after months of torture in Eritrean prisons.
He considered the continued kidnapping and torture crimes against the Yemeni fishermen by Eritreans and their Emirati successors are a flagrant violation of all international agreements and covenants.
Al-Zubairi affirmed that these crimes and violations will not be subject to the statute of limitations.
For their part, the fishermen explained that the Eritrean navy forces kidnapped them while they were fishing in Yemeni maritime waters, and took them to its prisons, where they had been subjected to various types of torture, including hard labor and starvation.
During the reception, the Minister of Fisheries and the leadership of the Authority handed over sums of money to the freed fishermen.
