ISIS moves its forces from Niger to border with Nigeria

WORLD, Aug 17 (YPA) – The Islamic State (ISIS) or Daesh organization’s West African branch, transferred some part of its forces in Niger to the border with Nigeria, amid fears of military intervention by “ECOWAS” forces in the country, The Nigerian Daily Trust newspaper reported, citing sources.

According to the paper, “the best fighters of ISIS West Africa began moving from their positions in the Sahel and Niger to Nigeria and stopped in the Lake Chad region.”

The terrorist organization fears of a possible ECOWAS military intervention in Niger and the closure of the country’s borders, and that “this move poses a great danger to the entire region.”

The ECOWAS countries had earlier threatened to intervene militarily in Niger after the military ousted President Mohamed Bazoum and set up a military council to run the country.

They imposed sanctions on the military council, demanding that Bazoum be repatriated under penalty of measures that could include “military intervention”.
