UNDP: Pumping oil out of FSO Safer is in its final stage

HODEIDA, Aug 06 (YPA) – The United Nations announced on Saturday That the unloading of 71% of the amount of crude oil in the dilapidated “Safer” tank to the alternative tanker “Al-Yemen”, since the start of the unloading operation on July 25 in Hodeida province.

“Today 71% of the FSO Safer oil (824 179 barrels) is transferred,” Director of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Achim Steiner, said on his Twitter account, adding “ UNDP is committed to work twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to protect life and livelihoods”.

He continued:” The UN operation to stop Red Sea Spill is in its final stage.

The United Nations recently started the process of unloading oil from the dilapidated Safer oil reservoir off the coast of Yemen on the Red Sea coast to a new ship named “Al-Yemen”, in a process expected to take 19 days to avoid humanitarian and environmental disasters.
