Human rights organization reveals toll of Abyan’s forcibly disappeared persons in STC-run prisons

ADEN, Aug 04 (YPA) – Head of Al-Rasad Organization for Human Rights and former coordinator of international organizations in the city of Aden revealed shocking information about detainees and forcibly disappeared people from Abyan governorate in the prisons of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).

The Activist Anas Al-Sharik, the head of the organization, confirmed in a tweet on Friday, that he had met during the past days with Yemen Sanctions Committee, indicating that the meeting points focused on the forcibly disappeared persons in prisons located in the city of Aden, which is under the control of the Saudi-led coalition factions, in southern Yemen.

“It is unfortunate that 80% of the list of forcibly disappeared persons are from Abyan province,” he  said, adding that “informing parents about the  fate of their sons is a basic right, and we will not give up this right, regardless of the difficulties and challenges.”

He pointed out that the return of new and regional hatred establishes a future conflict from which no one in the south will be spared, referring to the STC’s tendency towards re-bloody January events in the southern governorates.

The STC solely devoted policy of exclusion and acquisition of civilian and military positions without involving other southern components and forces, including Abyan, which made its areas military barracks for its factions that it brought from Dhalea province and Yafa district  in Lahj during the past years.

The STC factions imprisoned hundreds of politicians, military and security personnel from the people of Abyan province in their secret prisons and detention centers in Aden on various charges following the confrontations  with factions loyal to the resigned President “Hadi” and his Interior Minister Ahmed Al-Maysari in mid-August 2019 and the expulsion of their followers from the city.
