Malnourished children in Taiz increases due to deteriorating economic situation

TAIZ, Aug 03 (YPA) – The coalition forces-controlled areas in Taiz province have witnessed a significant increase in the number of malnourished children.

Head of the malnutrition department at the Yemeni-Swedish Hospital in the city of Taiz explained that the department receives ten cases of malnutrition every day from children, adding that the number of malnourished children increased significantly over the past months.

“The reasons are due to the deterioration of the economic situation and the rise in food prices, as well as the weak purchasing power of people and the increase in poverty rates in society, he added.

In addition, the specialist in records and statistical accounts at the Yemeni Swedish Hospital, Ahmed Rajeh, revealed that the number of malnourished children in Taiz reached 308 in the inpatient department during 2022 to 2023, and 1078 children in the outpatient clinics.
