UN announces unloading of 60% of amount of oil in “Safer” reservoir

HODEIDA, Aug. 03 (YPA) – The United Nations announced on Thursday the unloading of 60% of the amount of crude oil in the dilapidated “Safer” tank to the alternative tanker “Al-Yemen”, since the start of the unloading operation on July 25 in Hodeida province.

Director of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Achim Steiner, said on his Twitter account: “Every day we are getting closer to completing the operation to save the Safer oil reservoir.”

He stressed that 60 percent, or about 680,000 barrels, of the oil on board the Safer was transferred to the replacement ship.

The United Nations recently started the process of unloading oil from the dilapidated Safer oil reservoir off the coast of Yemen on the Red Sea coast to a new ship named “Al-Yemen”, in a process expected to take 19 days to avoid humanitarian and environmental disasters.
