17 people die in South Korea due to extreme heat

WORLD, Aug 02 (YPA) At least 17 people have died in South Korea as a result of the extreme heat wave that the country has been witnessing since mid-July, according to the Korean authorities.

Korean authorities said in a statement on Tuesday that the ongoing heat wave had caused the death of 17 people.

Most of the deaths were farmers and the elderly, who work abroad under the sweltering heat, the statement said.

South Korea has been experiencing a record heat wave since mid-July, with temperatures recording 35 degrees in several parts of the country. The northern province of Gyeongsang is the most affected by the heat wave.
