TAIZ, July 12 (YPA) – Gunmen loyal to the Saudi-led coalition continued on Wednesday to hold dozens of gas trucks in Taiz province, soutwest Yemen, for the second day in a row.
Local sources in Taiz told the Yemeni Press Agency that the pro-coalition recruits affiliated with the Islah Party seized dozens of trucks belonging to merchants from Taiz in the Jabal Habashi area.
The gunmen refused to release the gas-loaded trucks, which were imported by merchants from the areas controlled by the Sanaa government because of their low price.
The sources confirmed that the gas company of the government loyal to the coalition in Taiz stipulated that merchants sell a 20-liter gas cylinder at a price of 9,500 riyals instead of 8,000 riyals in return for releasing their trucks.
Recently, Taiz province and all other provinces under the control of the pro-coalition factions have witnessed a huge price hike due to the collapse of the local currency in those areas.
