General strike hits public transport in Aden

ADEN, June 20 (YPA) – An Executive Office of the General Syndicate of Transport in Aden city, south of Yemen, announced on Tuesday a comprehensive strike in all publict ransport lines.

The union said in a statement that the strike comes in response to the storming of the Heavy Transport Syndicate building by Acting Head of the Land Transport Authority, Fares Shaafal, with a large military force, without any justification.

“The strike will not stop without the intervention of the so-called leaders of the UAE-backed Transitional Council (STC) to stop irresponsible actions that will result in damage to public and private interests,” the statement confirmed.

The strike of the transport workers comes in light of the continuation of the majority of restaurants in Al-Mualla city to the general strike, which began last Sunday, in protest against the imposition of exorbitant taxes on shop owners by the local authorities.
