HADRAMOUT, June 20 (YPA) – Hundreds of citizens went out on Tuesday to the streets of the city of Seiyun, the provincial capital of Hadramout, in a protest rally to denounce the collapse of various basic services, including electricity and health.
In rally, the protesters loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) demanded the so-called “self-management”, which was called for by the STC’s vice president, Ahmed Saeed bin Brik, in a meeting held on Monday, in the city of Mukalla of the province.
The demonstrators raised slogans calling for the exit of the Islah Party -run First Military Region forces, stressing that the people of Hadramout paying the price as a result of the failure and collapse of services.
They threatened the Saudi-formed leadership council and the pro-coalition government to escalate in the coming weeks, after they were subjected to an attempt to disperse them by firing shots in the air from the Islah militants.
The region’s forces opened fire towards the participants in the demonstration to limit the crowd’s advance towards the region’s leadership.
Last Sunday, similar protest rally took place in the cities of Al-Shihr and Ghail Bawazir in the same province to demand to improve the electricity service, during which the participants blocked the main roads and streets with stones and set fire to tyres.
The southern and eastern provinces of Yemen, which are under the control of the coalition, have witnessed in unstable conditions amid a state of discontent and congestion due to the deterioration of economic conditions and the collapse of various basic services.
