Renewed clashes in Sudan less than hour after truce expired

KHARTOUM, June 11 (YPA) – Powerful explosions were heard south of Omdurman, less than an hour after the end of the truce between the Sudan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces, media sources reported.

On Sunday morning, the twenty-four-hour truce between the two parties to the conflict in Sudan ended.

A one-day truce that came into effect yesterday morning gave Khartoum residents a rare breathing space since fighting began nearly two months ago.

Since the conflict began last April, between the army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Daglo “Hemedti”, the two sides have concluded more than one ceasefire agreement that was quickly violated by both sides.

The truce came into effect at 6 a.m. (04:00 GMT) on Saturday. Throughout the day, residents in the capital told AFP that calm across the capital had replaced the echoes of shelling, clashes or warplanes.
