180 Yemeni fishermen arrive in Hodeida after being released by Eritrean forces

HODEIDA, May 31 (YPA) – As many as 180 Yemeni fishermen have arrived at the coast of Al-Khawkha in the western province of Hodeida, after being released from the prisons of Eritrean forces, a source in the Ministry of Fisheries in Sanaa government said.

According to the source, the fishermen were arrested while they were fishing off the coast of Yemen, and they were transferred to torture camps on the Eritrean coast after confiscating their boats and fishing equipment, which is their only source of livelihood.

The source confirmed that he arrest and detention carried out by the Eritrean authorities against Yemeni fishermen escalated off the Yemeni islands, which are administratively affiliated with Hodeida Governorate , western Yemen.

The source pointed out that most of the fishermen had been subjected to hard labor  and torture during their detention. One of the fishermen had his hands broken.

The ministry called on the Eritrean authorities to release the remaining detainees unconditionally and respect agreements and treaties.
