Power outage crisis in Socotra sparks state of popular discontent

SOCOTRA, May 27 (YPA) – The Socotra archipelago has witnessed the continuation of the power outage crisis in Hadiboh and its environs, amid escalating discontent against the UAE forces that control the Island.

According to local sources, the ongoing frequent and sudden outages led to the burning of the citizens’ household appliances, in addition to doubling the suffering of the citizens due to the hot weather, especially with the advent of the summer season.

The continuation of the power failure came despite the issuance of a ruling by the Hadiboh Court of First Instance, in May, against the UAE electricity company, Dexim Power, which works an illegal status in the investment business.

Some sources considered that the Emirati company Dexm Power in Socotra is currently working to change its name in order to return it in an official status to evade the court’s decision, although the company is not welcomed in the archipelago.

the Qalansiyah district of Socotra has witnessed, at the beginning of May, popular protests denouncing the deterioration of electricity services, during which citizens demanded an improvement in the situation of electric power after tampering with the service from the fictitious “Dexm Power” company, which was established by the UAE to launder money in the archipelago.
