Saudi Arabia rejects Al-Alimi’s request about local currency in Aden

ADEN, May 21 (YPA) – Saudi Arabia rejected an urgent request made by Riyadh-formed head of the Presidential Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, to save the local currency in Aden city, south of Yemen.

According to media sources, quoting sources in the Ministry of Finance of the-backed coalition government, that Al-Alimi called for the Saudi ambassador, Mohammed Al Jaber, to intervene to stop the collapse of the local currency, but the ambassador set conditions, including the return of all members of the Council, including Faraj Al-Bahsani and Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, to Riyadh.

Through a meeting, Saudi Arabia seeks to extract all revenue facilities in Aden, which are currently subject to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council, as a prerequisite for supporting the currency.

Al-Alimi had held an emergency meeting with his prime minister and governor of the Central Bank before leaving Aden for Riyadh.

According to official media reports, the meeting was devoted to discussing the financial crisis that the central bank in Aden is going through.
