MOSCOW, May 11 (YPA) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad during the latter’s visit to Moscow on Wednesday.
According to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry, the two ministers exchanged views on urgent issues on the international and regional agenda.
They also discussed in detail the situation in Syria and its surroundings, with a focus on advancing the comprehensive settlement of the Syrian crisis based on the effective role of the Astana platform.
The two sides stressed the need for constructive dialogue between Damascus and neighboring countries based on the principles of unconditional respect for the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.
In this context, the positive pace of the resumption of Syria’s relations with Arab countries on the eve of the Arab League summit in Saudi Arabia was discussed.
