Taliban detains 3 British citizens in Afghanistan

WORLD, April 02 (YPA) – Three British men have been detained by the Taliban in Afghanistan, according to media reports,

Sky News said on Sunday that Taliban authorities detained Kevin Cornwell, 53, from Middlesborough, student Miles Routledge, 23, and an unnamed British man .

In the same context, the Telegraph newspaper, citing a European official, reported that the third British citizen, Miles Routledge, was arrested by the Taliban on March 2 along with two Polish citizens.

According to Sky News, Cornwell is accused of possessing illegal weapons in the safe of his hotel room, but his family has confirmed that the weapons are licensed.

The channel quoted a Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) spokesperson saying: “We are working hard to secure consular contact with British nationals detained in Afghanistan and we are supporting families.”
