Russia: US, France, Germany and UK cannot play mediation role

WORLD, March 21 (YPA) – The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the United States, UK, France and Germany cannot play a neutral mediating role in the peace process in Ukraine, because they are involved in the conflict against Russia.

Earlier, the former president of the Munich Security Conference, Wolfgang Ischinger called for the creation of a contact group on Ukraine in order to “launch the peace process,” and suggested that the group include Washington, London, Paris and Berlin.

“Officially, we do not know anything about this initiative. <…> Nevertheless, Ischinger’s idea raises legitimate questions. First of all, because all the four countries mentioned are themselves participants in the conflict with Russia, which continues on the territory of Ukraine,” the source in foreign ministry said. The source noted that these countries provide Ukrainian forces with weapons, provide them with intelligence to identify targets, supervise the training of troops for Ukraine, and also send mercenaries to the area of the special military operation.

“In addition, they have imposed sanctions on Russia, blocked its foreign assets, demanded a tribunal to punish its leadership, and blackmailed its friends into forbidding them from cooperating with Moscow,” he added.
