Death toll in Gabon ferry disaster rises to 24

WORLD, March 20 (YPA) –  The death toll in the ferry disaster off the coast of Gabon last Thursday has risen to 24, the Rescue Operations Coordination announced.

A total of 124 passengers out of 161 were rescued, rescue teams said.

The ship, carrying passengers and cargo, was on a voyage between Libreville and Port-Gentil.

Investigations into the incident have been opened, and the government announced on Monday the suspension of four administrative officials as a precautionary measure.

The Public Prosecution also reported that people were placed under investigation and others arrested
