ADEN, March 11 (YPA) – Leaders in Yemen’s Aden-based central bank stripped officials loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) of all the powers granted.
Sources familiar with the matter said that Ahmed Al-Maabqi, a director of the bank, who is affiliated with the General People’s Congress (GPC), rejected to grant the representative, Mohammed Omar Banaja, any powers within the bank’s management, indicating Al-Maabqi’s office, appointed since the administration of Hafez Mayad, stood behind the interventions, and brought a number of contractors in important positions in the bank.
The sources indicated that Banaja left the bank last Wednesday, following sharp disputes between the administration.
