Islah militants attack protesters in Taiz

TAIZ, March 10 (YPA) – Islah militants in Al-Ma’afer district of Taiz governorate attacked demonstrators in Al-Nashma market on Friday.

Local sources said that armed elements on military vehicles led by the deputy director of the Ma’afer police, “Mazen Al-Buraihi”, attacked peaceful demonstrators in the city of Al-Nashma by  throwing stones and shooting bullets to disperse them.

The sources added that the demonstrators came out to denounce the former commander of the military police in Taiz governorate, “Muhammad Salem Al-Khawlani,” for digging a water well under the protection of Islah militias in the district.

The sources said that the people have orders and directives to stop drilling the well belonging to the military commander Al-Khawlani due to the scarcity of water in the directorate, which threatens to deplete groundwater.

Al-Khawlani disregarded these directives and used his influence in the province, the sources said.

Residents in the district held protest to denounce the digging of water well. They blocked the street, after which security forces suppressed the protesters and arrested a number of activists.
