WORLD, Feb. 21 (YPA) – The Council of the European Union agreed to extend sanctions against the Russian Federation until February 24, 2024.
The document, published in the Official Journal of the European Union, stated that “based on the review of the decision … Taking into account the ongoing illegal actions taken by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, it was decided to extend the restrictive measures until February 24, 2024.”
Since the end of February last year, the EU has approved 9 packages of sanctions against Russia, including financial and trade restrictions, as well as individual sanctions.
Since February last year, the EU has announced a series of sanctions against 1,386 Russian individuals and 171 Russian institutions and organizations.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is part of a long-term strategy of the West, and warned that the sanctions dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy.
Putin stressed that sanctions against Russia will not hinder its development and growth, and that Russia is working to solve all the problems that the West creates for it.
