US President makes surprise visit to Ukraine

KIEF, Feb. 20 (YPA) – US President Joe Biden arrived on Monday in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, on a surprise and unannounced visit, the first of its kind since he assumed the presidency and since the start of the war in Ukraine.

Biden’s visit to Kiev comes as the first anniversary of Russia’s attack on Ukraine in February 2022 approaches.

“Ukraine will receive a new $500 million military aid package, to be announced tomorrow, Tuesday, February 21, 2023,” Biden said in Kiev, according to Reuters.

For its part, the White House issued a statement on the visit, confirming that President Biden will announce new military support for Ukraine that includes artillery ammunition, anti-tank systems, and air surveillance radars.

The statement noted that the United States will also announce new sanctions against Russian companies and individuals later this week.
