ABYAN, Feb. 19 (YPA) – Tribes of the central areas of Abyan, southern Yemen, imposed on Saturday an armed cordon on the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militia in the center of the province.
Local sources said that huge reinforcements of Mudiyah tribesmen deployed in the vicinity of the sites of the security belt groups affiliated with the STC, south of the district.
The sources indicated that the tribal deployment comes as part of a plan to encircle the remaining the STC’s positions in Mudiyah district, in an attempt to take advantage of the recent withdrawal of the STC’s factions from some of their positions in the center of the district.
The Mudiyah tribes had created new camps to receive and train hundreds of tribal fighters, as part of arrangements they lead in coordination with the remnants of the Islah groups stationed in Abyan, to fight their upcoming battle against the UAE factions.
The encirclement came in light of the continued depletion of the STC’s military bases in the central districts of the province, after they were subjected to massive bloody explosions.
