Turkey extends mandate of naval forces’ mission in Gulf of Aden

WORLD, Feb. 10 (YPA) – The Turkish Parliament approved the extension of the mission of the Turkish Naval Forces in the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea and its surroundings and the territorial waters of Somalia and its coasts for an additional year.

In its session on Thursday, the General Assembly of the Parliament approved the presidential extension memorandum, which provides for the extension of the mission of the Turkish Navy in the aforementioned areas, for an additional year, starting from February 10, 2023.

The presidential memorandum indicated that the Turkish navy operating in the aforementioned areas has effectively ensured the safety of commercial ships flying the Turkish flag or linked to Ankara, since February 10, 2009.

According to the memorandum, the active participation of Turkish elements in the joint struggle of the international community against piracy, armed robbery and terrorism at sea.
