Russian expert explains why Berlin refused to supply tanks to Kiev

WORLD, Jan. 21 (YPA) – President of the Geopolitics Problems Academy, Leonid Ivashov, stated that Germany does not want to supply Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks, as it understands that the main beneficiary of this is the United States.

“It is clear why Germany is taking such a modest line. There are political and domestic economic reasons for this. Today, against the background of the conflict, a systemic global economic crisis is unfolding, and the Germans feel more than others that the main beneficiary here is the United States, their companies, their military-industrial complex. Because they (the United States) are de-industrializing Europe, starting with Germany, and are essentially making a semi-colony out of the European economy,” Ivashov told RIA Novosti.

In his opinion, the meeting of the contact group on support for Ukraine at the Ramstein air base did not fail, because agreements can be reached on the supply of other weapons to Ukraine.

“It can be assumed that, for example, less efficient British …, American vehicles will be supplied instead of Leopard 2 tanks, albeit outdated and, possibly, other, better types of weapons,” he said.

However, Ivashov added, the results of the meeting may indicate that many NATO countries are tired of participating in the military conflict in Ukraine.

“They do not want conflict. They do not want to sacrifice people, they are concerned about the situation of their country and people,” the expert summed up.
