SANAA, Jan. 19 (YPA) – A protest rally was staged on Thursday in Sanaa by Food and Household Merchants Syndicate to denounce the decision to raise the price of the US dollar exchange rate used to calculate customs duties.
In the rally, organized in front of the United Nations headquarters in Sanaa, the protesters of merchants denounced the coalition-backed government’s decision, which comes within the framework of the aggressive war and the economic and commercial blockade against the Yemeni people.
The participants called on the United Nations and the international community to intervene urgently and put pressure to cancel this decision without delay, given its negative effects on society, resulting imbalances in food supply chains, and destabilizing the society.
They renewed the demand for the national economy and its institutions to be neutralized, as it is linked to the livelihood of the Yemeni people, calling for a better role for the international community in pressure to stop the war, lift the blockade, and stop practices aimed at destroying the economy.
They pointed out that the decision to raise the price of the customs dollar will cause great harm to the economies of consumers and will exacerbate their suffering.
