Washington transfers 155mm artillery ammunition stored in ‘Israel’ to Ukraine

WORLD, Jan. 18 (YPA) – The United States agreed last year with ‘Israel’ to supply 155mm artillery ammunition to Ukraine from US warehouses in Israel.

The deal involves the transfer of 300,000 artillery shells to Ukraine, half of which have already been shipped to Europe and are expected to be delivered to Ukraine via Poland.

Deliveries are made from US warehouses established in ‘Israel’ after the 1973 Arab-Israeli War for use by the US military in conflicts in the Middle East.

The paper noted that the Israeli military has several times gained access to weapons stockpiles held by the US Central Command.

The previous Israeli government initially opposed the shipment of the munitions from US warehouses, because it feared a possible negative reaction from Russia. But after a formal request from US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, former Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid approved the deal “in order to avoid tension in relations with the United States.

This was accompanied by an American pledge to replenish stockpiles in warehouses in Israel, as well as to organize an immediate supply of these munitions in case of urgent need.

Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder told the newspaper that the United States would not disclose any details about the ways in which the munitions were delivered.
