WORLD, Jan. 10 (YPA) – A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Tanimbar region in Indonesia on Tuesday, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said.
The epicenter of the quake was located in the Banda Sea, 131 km southeast of the city of Ambon.
The quake was at a depth of 97 kilometers (60.27 miles) below the earth’s surface, EMSC said.
No further details have been released yet.
Ambon is located on the island of the same name, one of the Moluccas in southeastern Indonesia. The city has a population of about 355,000 people.
