Pro-UAE militias carry out campaign of arrests in Abyan

ABYAN, Jan. 07 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia carried out on Saturday a campaign of kidnappings against citizens in Abyan province, south of Yemen.

Tribal sources stated that the campaign targeted a number of citizens, especially loyal to the resigned president “Hadi” and the Islah Party, after storming their homes in in various areas Mudiyah district.

The sources said the arrests came against the background of the explosions with explosive devices that targeted STC’s militia vehicles on Friday, in Wadi Umran area of the district, which left 7 dead and a number of wounded.

The campaign met with angry reactions among the people of Abyan tribes, describing it as regional actions, which came after the STC sent military reinforcements from Aden and Dhalea last week.
The most of the victims of improvised explosive devices in the various districts of Abyan, from the sons of Dhalea, Yafai and Radfan, have made the militia launch revenge campaigns against the citizens there.
