UAE-funded STC deploys dozens of military vehicles in Abyan

ADEN, Jan. 01 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militias deployed on Sunday dozens of military vehicles in Abyan province, southern Yemen.

Sources familier with the matter said the military reinforcements came to confront the war of ambushes and explosive devices planted by Islah Party and al-Qaeda elements in the province.
The sources reported that the military reinforcements arrived in the city of Zanzibar, the provincial capital of Abyan, coming from Aden.

This comes after the STC militia was subjected to many ambushes with explosive devices by al-Qaeda and Islah militants in the various districts of Ahwar, Mudiyah and al-Mahfad of Abyan, which left dozens dead and wounded during the past three months.

Last week, the governor of Abyan in the Sanaa government, Saleh Al-Junaidi, accused Saudi Arabia and the UAE of turning over the districts of Abyan to terrorist elements.

The STC militia has been waging a war of attrition in the various districts of Abyan, since its control of the Islah camps in the city of Shuqra and Ahwar, in the same province, and a Saudi intervention to keep some Islah camps in Mudiyah, the stronghold of al-Qaeda elements.
