Buses carrying migrants stopped in front of US vice president’s house on Christmas Eve

WORLD, Dec. 26 (YPA) – At least three buses of recent migrant families arrived from Texas near the home of Vice President Kamala Harris in record-setting cold on Christmas Eve.

The migrants were taken to local shelters, according to a department official. More buses arrived outside Harris’ headquarters later on Saturday.

The migrants were wearing T-shirts despite temperatures hovering around 15 degrees Fahrenheit (-9 degrees Celsius). They also were given blankets and placed on another bus bound for a local church.

Amy Fisher, who volunteers her time with Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network, which receives migrants sent to the capital since the spring, said the organization prepared for arrivals Saturday evening after being informed by an NGO working at the Texas border.

The arrivals included asylum seekers from Ecuador, Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Peru and Colombia, according to Fissher, as buses were supposed to head to New York, but were diverted to the capital due to the weather. Migrant buses have arrived in Washington weekly since April.
