Somali woman dies inside refugee camp in Lahj

LAHJ, Dec. 22 (YPA) – A 30-year-old Somali refugee woman died on Thursday due to lack of health care during childbirth in Lahj province, southern Yemen, which is under the control of the Saudi-led coalition forces.

Local residents reported that the refugee “Fartoun Muhammad Nasser”, a resident of Kharaz refugee camp in Al-Madhareba district, died with her fetus due to complications she suffered during her difficult delivery, neglect of her condition, and the lack of medical services inside the camp hospital.

The residents added that the Kharaz camp hospital was closed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) about a month ago, without mentioning the reasons.

They confirmed that the tragedy of the Somali woman is only one of the thousands of suffering stories that Somali refugees face in the camp, which is mainly caused by the negligence of the camp managers in their assumed and humanitarian duty towards the refugees.
