WORLD, Dec. 20 (YPA) – Moscow confirmed that the implementation of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights issued after Russia’s withdrawal from the European Convention on Human Rights and the Council of Europe last March is closed.
This was announced by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin, who noted that on June 11 President Vladimir Putin signed federal laws in this regard.
“It has been determined that the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights, which entered into force after March 15, 2022, are not enforceable,” the Deputy Minister added.
According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, the Russian Public Prosecution will continue to pay compensation to applicants until January 1, 2023 under the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights that entered into force before March 15, 2022, on condition that they do not conflict with the Russian constitutional order.
“In this way, we believe that the decisions on Russia issued by the European Court of Human Rights after March 15 this year lack legitimacy and the matter is closed,” he said.
On March 15, Russia officially announced its withdrawal note from the Council of Europe and the European Convention on Human Rights, saying that it would comply with the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights if they were compatible with the Russian Constitution.
