8 Iraqi policemen killed in Kirkuk explosion

BAGHDAD, Dec. 18 (YPA) – At least 8 elements of the Iraqi federal police forces, including an officer, were killed on Sunday in an explosion targeted their military patrol in the southwest of Kirkuk governorate, an Iraqi security source reported.

An explosive device exploded in two patrol cars, one of which was a troop carrier and the other a Hummer type, in the Riyadh district of Hawija district, southwest of Kirkuk.

The source explained that there the patrol was part of a search operation in an area full of explosive devices, and that the force present had prior knowledge of the presence of explosive devices on the road, but it did not pay attention and entered without searching the road.

Separate areas in Iraq are subject to attacks by the terrorist organization “ISIS”, which exploits the desert and rugged areas.
