WORLD, Dec. 11 (YPA) – The US administration plans to send a high-level delegation to China, the first since the Chinese and US presidents promised last month to warm relations between their countries.
The US delegation will travel to China, South Korea and Japan, led by Kritenbrink, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs and Security Council Senior Director for China and Taiwan Laura Rosenberger from Dec. 11-14.
In China, Kritenbrink will have to complete what Biden started after his last meeting with Chinese President Xi on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali in mid-November.
Biden and Xi pledged at the time to “continue to responsibly manage competition between the two countries and explore potential areas of cooperation,” the US Department Of State said.
They have spoken in particular about contentious topics, including the future of Taiwan, US restrictions on imports of Chinese technology products, and the expansion of Chinese influence.
Kritenbrink will also attend in Beijing for US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to China, scheduled for early 2023, the first by a senior US diplomat in four years.
