EU plans to dismantle UAE-backed STC militia

ADEN, Dec. 10 (YPA) – UAE-funded Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia revealed on Saturday that the European Union (EU) had put the final touches to a plan to dismantle the its militia in Aden province.

This came in the wake of the conclusion of the Union’s ambassadors’ visit to Aden, during which they declared their support for the head of Saudi-formed Presidential Council, Al-Alimi’s steps in merging the armed militia affiliated with the Saudi-led coalition.

Media outlets loyal to the STC reported that the European Union ambassadors who visited Aden at the end of last week reviewed the report of the security and military committee charged with integrating the STC militia into the ministries of defense and interior.

They noted that the ambassadors presented recommendations aimed at ending the influence of the militia in Aden, Marib, and Seiyun, including the transfer of units affiliated with the STC, Al-Islah and Tariq Afash to Aden, Abyan, Lahj, and Shabwa in exchange for transferring militias from the STC and other southern forces to Marib, the western coast, and Taiz.

While official media in the coalition-backed Aden government reported that the Security and Military Committee, led by the former Minister of Defense in what was known as democratic Yemen, Haitham Qassem, had handed over its final report to Al-Alimi, expecting a decision to adopt the report and begin its implementation.

The report includes a dangerous plan to disperse and dismantle the STC factions and dispense with most of them.
