HADRAMOUT, Dec. 08 (YPA) – The recruits of the “First Military Region” affiliated with Islah Party on Thursday launched a massive campaign of arrests of citizens in the city of Sayoun in Hadramout province, eastern Yemen.
This comes after a wave of popular anger swept the city, represented in the closure of roads in implementation of the comprehensive civil disobedience called for by the statement of the so-called “Youth of Anger”, one of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions, demanding the removal of all the forces of the First Military Region from the city.
Local sources reported that members of the First Military Region fired live bullets at the protesters and arrested 11 citizens, including an 11-years-old child, and took them to an unknown destination against the background of the wave of protests taking place in the city of Sayoun and some areas of Hadramout desert.
The areas of the Hadramout valley and desert have been witnessing intense tension that escalated after “Rashad Al-Alimi,” president of the Riyadh-formed “Presidential Council,” issued on Tuesday a decision to isolate “Yahya Abu Awja,” staff officer of the First Military Region, which was met with rejection of Islah party.
