HADRMOUT, Dec. 05 (YPA) – Member of the Riyadh-formed Presidential Council, Major General Faraj al-Bahsani, warned on Monday UAE against establishing any militias outside the framework of the military institutions present in Hadramout province.
This came in light of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s efforts to create armed formations in the largest oil-rich provinces in Yemen.
Al-Bahsani rejected in a speech during his visit to the joint protection forces in the province forming any militia outside the constitution the province would lead to slip into sedition.
“Today, some may pretend to be patriots and demand that they have military blocs outside the constitution represented by the President of the Republic and the Minister of Defense,” he added.
Al-Bahsani went to say, “I have directed during the past years, and I repeat, that there is no military unit in Hadramout, because we do not want militias and several armies.”
On September 18, he had warned of any security chaos in the province, Mahra, and Shabwa, as they are important oil and gas investment areas for the Americans and Europeans.
Al-Bahsani said, during his meeting with a number of security and military leaders in Hadramout, a few days ago, that “the world is closely monitoring the developments of events in the three provinces.”
“These areas are importance of oil investments, in an affirmation that regional and international powers would not neglect them,” he added.
